Here at ARROW, we know that nothing beats the feeling of stepping out of a shower and wrapping yourself in a warm, fluffy towel. It feels nice and comforting! But choosing the right towel can be a little bit confusing on occasion. There are a few factors to consider when selecting the best towel for your bathroom. Fear not, though; we are here to help! This will include how to select the perfect towels for your bathroom, what makes a towel feel luxurious and soft, common mistakes people make when buying towels, eco-friendly towel options that are good for the planet and our towels care guide so you can keep your towels at their best looking fresh and new.
Now, first thing to consider is the material of the towel. Material is extremely essential! The most common is cotton, which offers exceptional softness as well as maximum absorption and durability. It’s great for everyday use. Another option is bamboo. Bamboo towels use a fast-growing plant and are therefore more eco-friendly, but may not absorb as well as cotton. Finally, there are towels made of microfiber. Perfect for travel or the gym, these towels are lightweight and quick drying.
After that, consider how thick/ heavy the towel is. The weight of towels is measured in GSM or grams per square meter and is available as light, medium and heavy. These can be anywhere between 300 to 900 GSM in weight. It means the thicker and more water-holding capacity towel, because high GSM. Heavy towels are wonderful but keep in mind that they can be slower drying post-wash. In other words if you desire a soft and absorbent towel then go for the towels with a higher GSM.
You may then want to go for Egyptian cotton, if you wish a truly high quality and plush towel. The long fibers that come from this type of cotton allow it to be particularly thirsty and strong. It feels great on the skin! Turkish cotton is a close second. It's thick and fluffy (which feels amazing on your skin after you shower). Towels made of Egyptian and Turkish cotton typically have a higher GSM, which means they are saturated with comfort and warmth.

On the towels buying mistakes — which are very common as you would probably see. Not thinking about the GSM is one of the biggest mistakes. You may find lower GSM towels that are cheaper, but they do not absorb water well and does not have a long life. Mistake #2 – Not having enough towels Point is, if you have but a few towels, you'll be washing those bad boys all the time. This can deplete them sooner. Don't forget to skip the fabric softeners and bleach when washing your towels too. Over time, these products can harm and prevent the fibres from taking in more moisture.

If you want to get an environmentally-friendly option look for the organic cotton towels. Made without harsh chemicals and pesticides, these towels are also good for you and the environment. Another environmentally-friendly alternative would be bamboo towels, since they are made of a quickly growing plant that can be harvested without damaging the ecosystem. Cotton towels are available in recycled cotton too. These towels are made from scrap cotton items, so they help reduce waste and is a sustainable recycling approach.

Timothy DeMarchi aka @TheTowelGuy has formulated a 'towel wash' to keep your towels in pristine condition. Make sure you wash your towels in warm water with mild detergent. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach as they can damage the fibers and decrease absorbency. While drying your towels, you shouldn’t be using the dryer on high heat or if nothing works, you can air-dry them. It prevents the stunting process, which also maintains fiber strength. Beware of over-drying your towels, this causes damage to the fibres which will reduce absorbency.
